Acrylic landscape painting - The symbolic Waikato River divides the landscape in two, the East side and the West side. Markers reference locations along it's banks with the familiarity of a topographic map.  In the Maori legend of Te Ika-a-Māui - Māui's Fish, the head of the fish is located at the southern tip of the North Island, near present-day Wellington. The tail of the fish is in the Northland region.  With this in mind, the painted landscape surrounding the Waikato region is depicted to be both above and below. Both are at the top, and equally true, depending on your perspective.

Where you come from, where you are, where you are heading to. Your location and relocation are on my mind when I created this piece.  A fledgingly Ellice Tanner Hart began on the 7th floor in a tall building located on the West side of the Waikato river. The central core of a thriving Hamilton City.

Multiple evolutions, expansions and two relocations later, it was time to migrate across the water. ETH found itself in a mirrored placement with a reverse view of it's previous premises just visible from its new premises, now on the East side of te awa.  Two sides of the River, e rua nga taha o te awa, is a visual representation and expression to mark this journey.
